Today we celebrate Kanye West 40th birthday and whats a better way to honor the former Louis Vuitton Don than with some of his greatest moments in Fashion. Just like we all have a favorite Ye’ album, we all have a favorite Ye’ fashion era. I honestly prefer anything pre 2012 (shade), though the fashion on Yeezus was impressive. I’m not here for the homeless/bodysuit monochromatic look where I have to pay 600 bucks for a sweatshirt that I can get at Walmart.
So here’s to you Kanye, we hope you give us 40 more years of style.
“There’s something so special about a woman who dominates in a man’s world. It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness, and the nerve to never take no for an answer. Amelia Earhart was such a dynamic force in her industry, setting multiple aviation records in her time. So it was a no-brainer for me to team up with Harper’s Bazaar in honor of a woman who held her own with the big boys.” —Rihanna
Rihanna covers Harper’s Bazaar’s 150th Anniversary issue. Chic but sexy, Rihanna channels Amelia’s utilitarian look and she is to die for. Amelia Earhart’s essay, originally published in Harpers Bazaar in 1929, gave tips on how women could travel fashionably.
Here’s an excerpt:
“What does the woman aviator wear? This question is asked me as often as any other connected with aviation. Ten years ago I could have described a flying costume. It would have consisted of helmet, goggles, leather jacket, breeches, and some sort of high boots. There were no traditions but those of wartime flying to follow, and both men and women adopted or modified it to suit commercial needs. Also, flying fields were usually dirty, planes were crude, and there were no refinements in facilities, such as passenger waiting-rooms, and so forth…..
Usually, on a solo flight, I wear low-heeled shoes, because with low heels it is easier to keep my feet braced on the rudder bar… On the Friendship flight I couldn’t follow the rule of wearing sports clothes. The trip was a pioneering one, and comforts were not thought of. Clothes suitable for “roughing it” had to be taken. For instance, there was no step from the pontoons to the door, and I couldn’t have jumped into the plane in a skirt….”

Aaliyah would’ve celebrated her 38th birthday today. Though her life was tragically cut short, Aaliyah left not only her music but so many iconic fashion moments. Now I wasn’t the hugest fan of her vocals BUT I was here for her style. I will never forget having to beg my mom for Tommy Hilfiger (my mother wouldn’t let us wear Tommy*) because we saw Aaliyah rocking it!
Aaliyah’s style was ahead of her time. Remember the leather lace up pants from “More Than A Woman”? Or how about the diamond studded bra from “Try Again”? Her style definitely influenced the masses and it is still very relevant today!
So in honor of your birthday Babygirl, I picked some of my favorite iconic moments that I somehow still can’t get right today. 🙂
*Tommy Hilfiger said he didn’t want Blacks, Asians or Hispanics wearing his clothes on an episode of Oprah.
America’s Sweetheart, Zendaya Coleman, stars in Dolce & Gabbana’s “Millenials Only” Spring/Summer Campaign. With Spring being a few months away, Dolce & Gabbana definitely has inspired our Spring wardrobe with this colorful ad.
Shot on the beaches of Capri, Italy, Zendaya stops everyone dead in their tracks as she dances and plays the tambourine. Zendaya has me looking at flight to Capri to recreate this shoot to get my life!
Everywhere you turn or scroll, every fashionista has on a pair of backless loafers or mules (depending on who you talk to). I’m all about shoes and adding a mule to your wardrobe completes your look. While the sneaker craze is still around, the mule switches it up by elevating a simple look as oppose to dressing it down. While the most coveted Gucci Princetown is always sold out (to my few friends that were able to get their hands on a pair, I can’t stand y’all) I took the liberty of compiling a few other brands as well for every budget!
