New Restaurant:  CLAY

There’s a new kid on the block in Harlem!  Clay recently opened about 3 months ago, and the neighborhood seems to be welcoming them with arms wide opened.  This new restaurant features a Farm to Table concept which means only the freshest of ingredients from local suppliers is served at this restaurant.  This is great for YOU because having a menu that changes based upon the season provides you with options.

Their wine list is rather extensive, and if you are a red wine drinker then you are in for a good time. Clay has over 20 different types of red wines, and don’t worry they are still showing plenty of love to you white wine drinkers.  Their bartenders are the real deal and WILL recommend the perfect drink based upon whatever your taste-buds are craving.  I recently dropped in for a drink and did not get a chance to indulge in their food, but I did get a chance take a peek at the menu.  Their menu includes dishes such as Waygu tartare, duck breast, black bass, and gnocchi.    I plan on making my way back to Clay soon to sit down and have dinner as well, and I promise to report back!

This is a great atmosphere for a date, family dinner, a quiet brunch,  or just grabbing drinks.  They also have happy hour during the weekday from 4-7pm which includes a vodka based drink called Queen Bee.  A possible ode to Beyoncé? In my head I just want to say “Yeah!”.

I will be making reservations soon for dinner, and will share my full dining experience with you all SOON!

A Night At The Honeywell

I mentioned The Honeywell in my last post entitled “The Love Above 125th Street” that highlighted some Harlem businesses.  I recently went back so I could order off their secret menu, and sip libations from a lava lamp.  It completely makes sense to enjoy a drink out of a lava lamp at a retro themed bar.  Check out some pictures from my groovy evening at The Honeywell, and be sure to check out their Instagram page as well.

Harlem Bars: Showing Above 125th Some Love

Harlem is unlike any other neighborhood in New York City, and it has been my home for almost 4 years.  Since living in this neighborhood I find it very important to support the local businesses in my hood from my cleaners, to my shoe repair, local clothing stores, restaurants, and bars.  I feel as if when it comes to the restaurant/bar scene in Harlem things above 125th street are sometimes an afterthought for most people.  I wanted to share with you some of my favorite places to grab a good drink above 125th.

The Honeywell – This bar is located on the lower level of a building in which you are not able to see directly into from walking past.  This being said, it creates this level of suspense before you walk into this bar that transports you back to the 70’s with their dimmed yellow lights and retro wallpaper.  This bar does not  JUST have tentative bartenders that serve up great drinks, but puts on a damn great show while making them.  They accept reservations via their website, and is great for large groups and offer great bar bites.  Be prepared to fall in love and cheat on current fav bartenders.

TOP 5: WHILE VISITING HARLEM

Harlem was a Dutch village that was settled in the 1650’s, and was named after a city in the Netherlands called Haarlem.  Harlem became a destination for many African-Americans during the the Great Migration in hopes for better job opportunities and to provide a better life for their families as well. MELBA’S IN HARLEM

Harlem is associated with so many great things such as jazz music, African American culture, and popular landmarks such as the The Apollo.  Last year over 50 million tourists made NYC a destination for travel, and Harlem is almost always on their list of places to experience.  But while in Harlem one thing you must do is get you some good ol soulfood.  There are many places in Harlem to get your collard greens and fried chicken fix, but my personal favorite is Melba’s.

Melba’s food always taste as if it came directly out of your mother’s kitchen and made with love.  There has been times I had to call my mom and let her know that Melba’s is giving her a run for her money.  The music at Melba’s always adds to your dining experience because the 90’s R&B playlist will have you swaying while chowing down on their famous chicken and waffles.  Time to brag on Melba’s!  Their chicken and waffle entree was the winner on Bobby Flay’s Throwdown.  If that doesn’t screan official then I don’t know what does!

Featured below are some of my favorites which include their Carolina fried shrimp, collard greens with turkey, and the unforgettable mac n’ cheese.

RESTAURANT SPOTLIGHT: RICARDO’S STEAKHOUSE

Let me start off by saying YAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS to Ricardo’s.

I have been living in Harlem a little more than two years, and I didn’t make my way to Ricardo’s Steak House until recently.  I was so impressed by the food and the ambiance I went twice in 7 days!  Ricardo’s is located in the East Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan, and has been recognized as one of the best steak houses in NYC.  Per their website they consider themselves the best birthday restaurants as well, and I can vouch for that from watching others celebrating their special occasion there.

New Spot Alert: Harlem Hookah

Yesterday I got the chance to check out a new spot named Harlem Hookah.  Think chic decor, sophisticated crowd, small bites menu, bathroom mirrors with the brand logo illuminated, beautiful marble bar, and over 25 flavors of hookah.  They me at hello with the red or white wine flight that you can do for $16.  They just recently opened on October 1st in Harlem at 129th and Lenox.  The couple behind the establishment is Former NY Jets player, Stephen Bowen, and his lovely wife, Tiffany.  If you get a chance drop in to this establishment, and they are open daily from 4pm-4am.  The entire month of October they are celebrating their grand opening with happy hour from 4pm-6pm.  I was there rather late in the evening, and didn’t get to take too many pictures.  Please head over to their website so you view their pictures for this beautiful space.  I promise you their pictures alone will have you calling to schedule reservations for your next outing.
