Boston Edition: Kanes Donuts

Everyone one who lives in NYC knows you HAVE to escape every now and again to keep your sanity.  This past weekend I decided to explore Boston for the first time.  Boston is known for being one of the oldest cities in the United States, home to a large number of colleges and universities, and great food.  Throughout this week I will be highlighting some of my favorites while visiting this historical city.

First stop in Boston was Kanes Donuts!  This is considered a Boston tradition that was started in 1955 by a family in a small town outside of Boston called Sagus, Massachusetts.   (more…)

BLACK TAP

Black Tap is known for their IG-worthy photos of ice cream shakes.  I finally got a chance to check em out last night at their SoHo location.  I got lucky because I only had to wait 5 minutes to be seated.  I have seen long lines of people (more…)

Dough Doughnuts

Dare I say the best doughnuts in NYC? I will and I dare you to debate me on this topic.  What is not to love about these large, fluffy, visually appealing, and deliciously tasting doughnuts?  They come in traditional flavors such as plain glazed or cinnamon sugar, but they also have some unique favors such as Hibiscus and Horchata.  One of the great seasonal doughnuts they have available for the holiday season is their Gingerbread doughbut.  They are well known for their yeast doughnuts but they also specialize in cake doughnuts and Doughkas (twisted yeast loaves). STL Edition: Contrary Cupcakes

After months of drooling over IG pics from Contrary Cupcakes I decided to drop in while visiting St. Louis for the holidays.  I consider myself a slight cupcake connoisseur if you have referenced my previous post.  This mini cupcakery opened February 2016 in the South Hampton neighborhood of St.Louis, and has generated a good buzz due to it’s large following prior to having their own storefront.  One thing that makes them so successful is their nontraditional combinations and flavors such as Lemonade, Pancakes & Bacon, and my personal favorite Mom’s Gooey Butter Cake.  The Lemonade cupcake reminded me of almost a lemon Italian ice all while channeling my inner Yoncé.  The gooey butter cupcake was such a SO ST. LOUIS item I had to have it and loved every minute.  Of course if you are not willing to take a walk on the wild side you can always try a traditional cupcake such as Vanilla or Chocolate Birthday.  They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 9am – 6pm or until they are sold out.  They not only specialize in mini cupcakes but also full size cakes as well.  Get out and support the ONLY mini cupcakery in St. Louis and a family owned business as well.

Sweet Treats:  Magnolia Bakery

Magnolia has to be something that is experienced at least once while visiting or living in New York City.  I feel as if God created Magnolia Bakery for your cheat days, because there is no such thing as watching your calories while there. Magnolia is a world renowned bakery that first started in 1996 in New York City in the heart of the West Village neighborhood.  Since their increased popularity they have expanded to an additional 6 NYC locations, Chicago, Hawaii, and L.A.

The two most popular items at Magnolia Bakery has to their banana pudding and their pastel colored cupcakes.  Although Carrie and Miranda on Sex and the City were sitting outside of Magnolia stuffing their face with cupcakes…what they should have been eating was the banana pudding.  Don’t get me wrong the cupcakes are the perfect combo with a dense cake and airy frosting, but not more memorable than the banana pudding.  With a perfect ratio of pudding to vanilla wafers, and the whipped texture makes this item you can add to your list of favorites EASILY!
