Brunchin’ In Queens: ORO

I have been living in New York City since 2014, and this past weekend I brunched in Queens for the first time.  Maybe it is because I have been living in Manhattan and this island has me spoiled rotten with endless brunch options.  Regardless, when given the chance to check out Queens with some good friends that are also foodies I jumped at the opportunity.

This past Sunday I checked out Oro, which is Spanish for GOLD.  Sounding classy already, huh? Before going to Oro I stalked their IG page, drooled over their food, and watched their promo video several times.  It was to the point my friend had to asked me if I was watching the video again and passing judgement at the same time.  Maybe it was the beautiful people having a good time, or my fav song playing in the background, or the positive energy this spot gave off.  From the video  I JUST knew I needed to experience it!

BROOKLYN BRUNCHIN: SOCO

I always say the perfect recipe for a memorable brunch includes great food, unlimited mimosas, and a great ambiance.  SoCo in Brooklyn gives this of these thing served with “southern fusion” cuisine which includes BBQ, cajun/creole, and soul food.  Their brunch includes a $15 unlimited mimosa with the purchase of entree on Saturday for one hour.  I know what you are thinking “What about 90 mins?” or “Why only Saturday?”  Trust me when I say the food will make up for it.

Regardless of what day you go for brunch I recommend making reservations if you can because this is a popular spot in Brooklyn.  Some favorites at this restuarant include:

  • Chicken and Red Velvet Waffles
  • Mac N’ Cheese
  • Strawberry Shortcake French Toast
  • Lobster, Shrimp, and Grits
  • Cornbread
  • Gumbo

During the warmer months they have a back patio which only enhances your brunchin experience.  Although I normally go to SoCo for brunch their dinner menu features things such as Pecan Crusted Pork Chops, Jambalaya, and Molasses Braised Short Ribs.

Chicago Edition: Ann Sather

ann-sather-1

Got a chance to hit up The Windy City this past weekend and go to my favorite spot for breakfast.  It something about Ann Sather when you immediately walk through the door you feel at the home.  The servers are always kind and the food always reminds you of something that someone’s grandmother has cooked for you.   Ann Sather isn’t new to the game and has been around since 1945. RESTAURANT SPOTLIGHT: SUEDE

Consistency is something that I consider to be very important for any restaurant that I am dining in.  I have been to Suede a handful of times and each time they always meet and exceed my expectations.  Suede offers modern Caribbean food in a classy environment that is perfect for any occasion.

I have seen couples dining here, large parties celebrating birthdays, families, and tables of beautiful women having a Ladies’ Night.  Their food will amaze you, the service will impress you, and the overall experience will have you coming back over and over.  Suede is located in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn and first opened November 28th, 2014.  I remember going to their soft opening for family and friends and being very impressed by the food, space, and service.

Brunch is a serious matter in New York City, and it’s something we don’t take lightly.  Honestly I will go on the record to say no one does brunch better then NYC.  I feel like the perfect recipe for a good time at brunch includes good food, great music, beautiful people, and let’s not forget the most important part – unlimited booze.  (more…)
